There are many websites out there such as American Diabetic Association, American Heart Association and the Center for Nutrition Education. There are also free apps out there – one of them is www.noom.com and Calorific to track daily food intake, etc. to make healthy eating habits a lifetime habit.
Thank you Jessica for some good advise and information. Program and meeting ended at 8:35p.m.

Vice President Bernard Tupa introduced our guest speaker Jimmy Brosch and then turned it over to President Alice Kubacak who said a few words about her acquaintance with Mr. Brosch back from 1971-1972 when she was President of the Austin Aqua Festival. Back then the festival had ethnic nights with musicians and Jimmy Brosch was one of the bands that was called upon frequently to perform for “Czech Night”. A great piece of history, his song “Corn Cockle Polka” based on a slow Czech funeral march, was the turning point in his career. It is one of only two songs recognized by the Texas Polka Music Awards as “All Time Favorites Songs”.
Mr. Brosch and his wife Lucy live in Katy, TX. Jimmy is a native of Praha, TX. He started playing at the age of 11 years when he bought a fiddle for $2.50. In 1951 he formed a band and has been playing for people, festivals, and dances all these many years.
Jimmy Brosh talked about polka music. The musicians are there, but we need to keep the younger generation to come to the Polka dances to keep it alive. One of his most requested songs are the “Corn Cockle Polka” and “Little Goose”. He entertained us with many stories that are part of Czech Polka history, and then played his harmonica, washboard, bells and squeeze horn. He brought his book that he wrote about 20 bands and of those 20 bands he made a CD with each band having a song on the CD. The book is $28.00 and $10.00 for the CD or if you don’t purchase the book, the CD is $15.00. The book is titled: Jimmy Brosch Remembers Twenty Legendary Texas Czech Polka Bands. A wonderful book and CD with much history.
Thank you Mr. Brosch for making the trip from Katy, Tx. We really enjoyed the stories and your music.
