Alfred Jim Vrana died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home in Austin, Texas. He was born in Granger, Texas, to Josef Vrana and Marie Cmerek Vrana. He attended Palacky Elementary School and graduated from Granger High School. He attended Durahams Business School in Austin and the University of Texas. He was employed for 30 years as an accountant for R E Janes Gravel Company in Austin. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Austin. He was a proud member of the Texas Czech Heritage Society & Cultural Center in La Grange, Tex., Czech Heritage Society of Texas, Member of Catholic Union of Texas KJT and of the SPJST. He was also a member and a past president of the Austin Czech Historical Association. He was a participant of University of Texas Czech Singers and an active supporter of the Czech activities through out the State of Texas. He was a founding member of Travis and Williamson County Czech Heritage Society, Member and Treasurer of Texas District of the National Alliance of Czech Catholics. He traveled to the Czech Republic many times often as a tour guide and translator. Alfred was always willing to promote his Czech heritage by wearing his authentic Czech festival attire at Praha and Westfest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Marie Vrana. Survivors include his brother Joe P Vrana, Jr. of Granger; nephews, Joseph Vrana III, Michael Vrana, Raymond Vrana, Steven Vrana, Marvin Vrana; and niece, Carolyn Vrana Reynolds and Delvin Huser, cousin. Rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00 p.m., at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday, 9:00 a.m., at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, with the Father Joseph Nisari officiating. burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Granger, Texas.
