In Memory of Edwin Joseph Schiller

Born in Industry, Texas on Feb. 28, 1917
Departed on March 6, 2011 and resided in Austin, TX.

Edwin Joseph Schiller, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away while surounded by his family, at home, on March 6, 2011. He was 94. Edwin (Ed) was the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Sealy High School and later from business school in Houston. He began his accounting career in both the maritime and oil and gas industries in Houston, and he retired from Suderman & Young Towing Company in 1986.

Ed grew up in the Czech Presbyterian Church of Sealy. He later attended First Presbyterian Church in Houston, where, in 1942, he met his wife, Joy. The family moved to west Houston in 1953, and Ed served as deacon, elder and treasurer at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years. When he and Joy moved to Austin in 1992, to be closer to their children and grandchildren, they joined Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, where Ed again served as elder.

Pround of his Czceh heritage, Ed was a member of the Austin Czech Heritage Society. Czech was his first language, which served him well when he visited his ancestral homeland. He was an avid fisherman and an impressive gardner. He cherished his family and friends, who in turn felt blessed by him.
